Another DIY Block Pool - 2017

I've been planning this pool for 3 years now.

It has evolved in design from a smaller freeform
to a larger block-wall vinyl pool.

The aim is to open the pool late spring 2017.

I've made a lot of my design, size and equipment
decisions from reading build threads on this forum.

So far I've removed every tree in the back yard.

I've spent the last month cutting/stacking/mulching
the mess that created.

Also constructed a 80' privacy fence and got
building permits sorted for the build.

Next step is the "pool location inspection"
before I can break ground.

What fun you have already had!! All of those trees and mess! I just hope one of the big ones do not land on your new fence!

It is neat to have someone that has read so much already that you KNOW what we are going to say/ask before we have to! LOVE IT! Oh knew to share lots of pics! THANKS!

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

Welcome to TFP, it looks like you've got a great start on your pool.

We had to take a mess of trees down also when we got our pool. Sad to see them go yet we'd never really enjoyed our backyard up to then.

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

Same here, we loved our wooded backyard but never enjoyed it.

It was sad to see the trees go but the future layout will get a lot
more use than before.

Inspector just left. He quickly checked my measurements then
drove off without saying more than 2 words.

So I've rented a mid size skid-steer (with tooth bucket) for a
week and a concrete breaker for a day.

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

When we were having trees felled for the pool build they cut them down leaving about 3 feet of stump. The guy said its easier to remove the rest using that stump as leverage. That might be useful info for you, I dunno?

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

Here is the updated equipment list:

1x Pentair SuperFlo VS
1x Hayward 700 sqft Cartridge filter (biggest i can find)
1x Pentair IntelliChlor IC 60 SWG
2x Waterway Venturi Skimmer Grey
4x brass deck jets
2x bubblers for the shelves

Fully enclosed equipment pad
No main drain.

Just curious... I see Pentair equipment and then a Hayward SWG. Any particular reason to mix? I understood that the Pentair SWG is the best on the market and that if you use at least 3 major components by the same maker you get an extended warranty. So if you get a Pentair SWG instead of Hayward you could be getting the extended warranty they offer. Something to check into!

Excited to watch your build!

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

These stumps were tough to get out! I probably should have rented a stronger loader.

So far only have used ~20 gallons of diesel and two days to dig the pool

Rain expected tomorrow so probably no progress then.

Next up is breaking out the driveway and parking pad.

I buried my good topsoil with this nasty hard georgia clay.

Re: North Atlanta, Georgia Pool Build DIY

You will be warm for a good, long while by the looks of the cut wood!

Those stumps are the WORSE! With roots going everywhere and not want to give up!

You say 20 gals of diesel BUT how much beer??? THAT is the true measure of a job at my house! LOL

Here is some pics after using the hammer attachment.

Once I got the hang of it, only took a few hours to pull
all of the concrete up.

So nice to reclaim the backyard! The past owners practically paved it over.

I can't wait until it's level and full of grass. It already feels so much bigger.
