Install Pentair SuperFlo

In preperation for summer I'm replacing our old, leaking single speed pump with a new Pentair Superflo dual speed pump. The manual for the Pentair says that the inlet piping from elbow to the pump should be 5x the pipe diameter. I don't have that option as the old pump is close the exterior wall of the house. Do I need to re-do the pipe from the pool to give this distance? What is the impact of not having this recommended distance?

It is recommended, not an absolute requirement. It will work as well as the original pump you had in there..

Yes, it will be fine, mine is similar and it is a 3hp Intelliflo. The basket makes up for a lot of that space requirement also.
