I am installing a new 3 way valve on my father in law's pool and accidentally ordered a 2" to 2 1/2" instead of 1 1/2" to 2 " valve. His plumbing is all 1 1/2". Is it OK to reduce this down to fit his plumbing or should I send it back and get the 1 1/2".

Welcome to TFP!!!Absolutely fine to use it! Using the larger valve just means you will have less head loss through the valve.
Actually I would advice to use 2" plumbing when ever you are doing any plumbing for the same head loss reason.
Thanks for the quick response. I wish it was all 2" but it's an older pool with black poly.
