I noticed that you put tabs "directly in the skimmer as advised here." I may have missed something, but I don't believe tabs placed directly in the skimmer should ever be suggested here. When your pump is off and to some degree while running your local FC in the skimmer and piping can get extremely high and be detrimental to the parts/equipment. Tabs, when used, should be in a chlorinator or floater.
