CYA and Chlorine Pucks

When I built my pool 1 yr ago, I was taught to use Chlorine pucks. I then found TFP and then use liquid chlorine ever since.

My question is my current CYA is 30ppm and I want to raise it to at least 40ppm. I have heard that the pucks increase CYA as well as sanitize. Would it be ok for me to use the pucks? I figure the bucket of pucks is just taking up room in my garage so why not kill two birds with one stone?

Yes you can. The effects of adding chemicals at the bottom of PoolMath will tell you what each 8oz trichlor puck will add.

Looks like 4 lbs -- probably 8 pucks, will add 11 CYA to your 24000 gallon pool. But be aware that they are acidic, so watch the TA and pH closely.
