I'm a huge fan of covering the pump station, period. At least the pump itself. The electronics in the VS pumps are, well, electronics and I only kinda trust the sealants. Better safe than sorry on a $600+ investment. Most 2 speed pumps are ACIM and a little more tolerant (no electronics) but it's still a wise choice to "cover your investment" - I built a "doghouse" with some old 2x4's and a harbor freight tarp, works fine.
