They came and opened my pool today. There was a white filmy substance that started appearing right away. It almost looked like toilet paper and would disintegrate when we tried to pick it up with the net. Pool people were alittle perplexed as well. Any ideas?

Please post a full set of test results (and tell us how the results were achieved -strips, drop-based kit, pool store) and we can help you better.

Ok here are the numbers from a chemical test kit.
Alk 120
PH 8.0
Chlorine 0
Calcium 200
Cyn Acid 0
They added muratic acid, conditioner, shock and clarifier.

Well, you've got some issues, for sure.
From your description, the "white stuff" sounds like white mold, but that's a guess.
From reading your other posts, however, it looks like you have been chronically low on chlorine so white mold makes sense.
You will need to read the basic articles in Pool School.
What did you test your water with last year and what did you use to chlorinate?
