New Polaris PB4-60 pump hose connectors

I purchased a replacement booster pump. The replacement came with the new screw on connectors. In order to use all 4 of the new connectors I will have to attempt to unscrew 10 year old connectors from the existing pvc caps. I am afraid that the old connectors may be brittle and when I attempt to unscrew the connectors that they will break. Has anybody attempted to unscrew the old connectors? Since the old connectors aren't leaking would it be best to just use the old style snap on style hose collars instead on the 2 pvc connections?

The fittings need to be replaced. As you note, they get brittle and that means that they could fail under pressure. They should be removable without too much trouble.
