Filling drained pool with a little green water in the bottom

My friend emptied his pool for repairs. After the repairs, we got some rain and it left about 6 inches of water in the deep end of the pool. That water has since turned green. He wants to refill his pool, does he need to drain the green water before starting? Or would you just fill the pool, add chemicals, and run the filter for a while? Thanks.

Fill the pool as is. You cannot rid a pool of algae....even by almost a complete drain. The conditions for algae still exist in your pool whether or not you drain off the water.

So to answer the question correctly, we need to know the size of your friends pool so we can suggest an addition of Clorox while the pool is filling. Your friend will then need to SLAM the pool per the article in Pool School.

In short, draining or not draining that remaining water makes little difference.....you'll still get algae unless you SLAM the pool.
