Hello

My 2hp pentair challenger is or has been loud the past couple of Summers

I've been looking at variable speed pumps and they are 150-on up more expensive

Are they worth the extra$ And do I need a 2hp for my 18x36 pool ??

Also any brands you guys like Reviews of Haywards on Amazon aren't to exciting

Thanks

Re: Variable Peed Pump or Single

If you don't have waterfalls, solar panels or other water features then you do not need a 2hp pump. I love my VS pump and will get another one when the time comes. Having total control over the water flow for different functions is very convenient. They are also extremely energy efficient. We have lots of trees and during spring and fall I run my 3hp VS pump 24x7. It runs at 1100rpm for skimming leaves, fi,tering and making chlorine with the SWG. The pump only uses 150 watts at 1100rpm. At 10.25c/kWh that is less than 12 bucks a month to run the pump 24x7. Pentair also makes the Superflo, it is a 1-1/2hp VS pump that might be better for you.
