how/where do you dispose your solar pool covers?

They are recyclable but not everywhere can accept them. I believe most are made from LDPE 4. Check with your manufacturer on the actual material and call your local recycling center (centers, if necessary) to see if they will accept the material if you bring it in.
Shouldn't you have a bubble wrap pop party first?
Unfortunately, that is the reason most are bad...the bubbles are already popped. I got rid of my last one by cutting it into manageable pieces and topping off my trash bag each week.

I recently heard that with the extreme drop in crude oil prices, recyclers can't sell their plastic. New plastic is cheaper than recycled. So some (or much) of the plastic sent for recycling is currently going into landfills. Cheap oil has its drawbacks.
