Thread Sealant Recommendations?

Hi,

can someone recommend a good thread sealant for my pump that is easy to get at a local hardware store (read: home depot, lowes, orchard supply, ace, etc)?

I used Oatey's Great White Pipe Joint Compound that has PTFE, but I am still having a small leak on the threaded nipple that I had had on. Either I didn't do it properly or I should use something better.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Re: Thread Sealant Recommendaations?

What size is the fitting? If it's less than 2" two layers of teflon tape should do the trick. If that doesn't work, I'd remove the used tape, re-wrap it, and then coat with the joint compound.

Re: Thread Sealant Recommendaations?

Like Sphisex, I usually use teflon on smaller pipe and the pipe thread sealant on anything 2" or larger. No set rule, but the pipe thread sealant seems to work a little better as the pipe gets larger.

Clean up your existing joint as much as possible and try it again.
