I just installed a new air relief valve on a sand filter because of a pinhole leak in the old one. For some reason when I open the new air relief valve to bleed out some air water shoots out and when I shut the valve water is still coming out. Then I shut off the pumps close the valve and start it up again it stays shut. Not really sure whats going on, the valve is brand new..Any insight?

There's usually debris in the water that can get inside the valve and prevent it from closing fully. Typically, it's lighter debris like Styrofoam or organics etc that float.

With the system off, the valve actually sucks in air, which can clear the valve. I wouldn't worry about clearing the air using the air relief. The air will usually clear on its own.
