Is one brand better vs others? We've been using Diamond Crystal Splash Ready from Lowes.
Type of Salt for a Pool

There are several threads discussing which types of salt are best. I don't think the brand makes much difference as long as the salt is at least 99.4% pure, is not food grade, has no additives like rust inhibitors, and is not rock salt.

use water softener salt, just make sure its pure salt, not the one with added stuff for rust, etc. its also usually the cheapest one 
Look out for ANY additives though. I accidentally bought some that had yellow prussiate of soda in it and now my water is BLUE tinted. Wife likes it though...
lots of us use this. The only difference is that the salt grains are larger than pool salt, so it takes 15 minutes to dissolve instead of 5, and it costs a couple of dollars less than the pool salt.
