Is there any special problem with pool heat pumps not being winterized? I know if I keep the water moving in freezing temperatures, that the pump and filter will be ok but now wondering if the piping inside a heat pump is more vulnerable to freezing temps than the 2 inch PVC would be. Thanks!

Two reasons it would be more vulnerable.
1. Smaller diameter, less volume = less energy loss (in heat) required to freeze the water.
2. I'm not sure what material the piping is made of but it may be more conductive that PVC, allowing heat to escape faster.
