Was thinking is it better to mount directly to the stucco or put a couple 4x4 in the ground and mount to them next to the equipment pad? I am just thinking about this as we plan to paint the house in the spring. Painting around all these wires and the box might not be best?

You've kinda already answered your own question. If you're already thinking that it'll be a problem, it's probably better to build a little rain shed to put it under slightly away from the house wall.
Good point, I did not think about the rain, good point! or at least paint that wall before the equipment goes in.
