Main drain cover broke off WITH attachment points... what are my DIY repair options?

My main drain cover (Hayward WG1048E: http://i.imgur.com/4oGnGfP.jpg) popped off due to some kind of backpressure and took the attachment points with it (http://i.imgur.com/TUeJuDp.jpg), so I don't see any immediate way to re-attach it.

I saw this item on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B004VTGRAS and figured I could use that, but my existing assembly doesn't have an "insert" that I can unscrew and replace... it's just flat and seems to be part of the whole assembly (http://i.imgur.com/b93VwgA.png).

Every pool repair service I've spoken to wants to drain the pool and replace the whole assembly, which I want to avoid if possible. Are there any DIY options available to me here that I'm not seeing?

Thanks!

I have no experience with Underwater Bonding Epoxy, but you could try that kind of material to "glue" the Amazon ring to the drain. Getting a good bond to plastics can be pretty iffy, and I imagine it would be doubly so underwater, but it might be worth a try. YMMV.

Google Underwater Bonding Epoxy to see what's available.
