SLAMing Fail?

I have been SLAMming my pool for a week. Sunday night I tested my chlorine at night and then the next morning and I didn't lose any chlorine over night! Yahoo....I am done! Or so I thought. I did the OCLT test one more time last night make sure things were good and this morning I tested and found that I lost 3 ppm of chlorine. How could I pass the test one night and not the next? Should I continue to SLAM my pool? Thanks!

Something isn't completely "dead" if you show an accurate loss of 3 ppm overnite. Continue the fight.

Can't explain why that happened but you must continue the SLAM. What does your water look like? What are yhour CC's test results?

My water is crystal clear and CC's have never been more than .5.

Well, the 3 things we look for to stop the SLAM are.....

1. Your pool water is sparkling and there is no visible algae (dead or alive)
2. Your CC's are .5ppm or less
3. You can hold your FC overnight without losing more than 1ppm.

Why not try the OCLT again tonight? Test VERY carefully (remember that the test is not complete until the last drop you add results in NO further change.....then subtract that last drop) I think you will pass and stop the SLAM and let your FC drift back down to maintenance levels.

To bring some closure to this thread....I continued my slamming for one more night and the following two nights I did the OCLT with no loss! Finally done!! Thank you all for the help.
