How do I clean scaling without having to empty the pool

There is no straightforward way to remove scaling without draining the pool. There are various things you can try, but none of them work nearly as reliably as a full drain and acid wash.

This page at Jack's Magic products has a good description of a no drain acid wash procedure. (The same thing can be done with out using Jack's Magic products, they just have a particularly good explanation of the procedure.) However, this procedure will usually take weeks, absolutely requires that the heater be bypassed, and even then it does not always work.

How extensive is the scaling and how accessible is it? Also, what kind of pool do you have? That can make a big difference. If you only have a little and you can get to it easily you could try a pumice stone and a LOT of elbow grease if you have a plaster pool.

I think a more important question is why do you have scale in the first place and what can you do to correct your water balance so it does not happen anymore.
