Game adapters leaking

I just bought a new pump and the game adapters to adapt the stock intex hoses to the pump for now till I hard plumb everything. My pump directions say to hand tighten and then 1/2 turn. I did that and they are still leaking, I used the teflon tape that came with it so there is thread sealant. Do I need to crank the adapters tighter? How tight is everyone getting the adapters they install so they don't leak? I don't want to break anything and just trying to get some input before I crank them down more. Thanks in advance.

I would use tape and pipe dope.

I did use teflon tape, I don't have any dope at the moment but might get some if I can't get it to stop leaking.

I used different Teflon tape then what came with the adaptors, I had to tighten a little more than 1/2 a turn

I use rtv sealant and have had no leaks
