sand filter works in every position except filter

I just inherited a used sand filter and pump and installed on my above ground pool and the multiport valve works in every position except the filter position. I watched several diy videos on how to install but must have gone wrong somewhere. Any ideas?

Please provide a better description of what you mean by not working in the filter position. Need more detail than that. How doesn't it work? What are the symptoms that lead you to believe it doesn't work?

Is the spider gasket in the proper position??
