salt vs. chlorine vs. chemical free

Hi, building a small therapy pool only 8 x 18 feet. Does anyone know if the chemical free systems, such as Ecosmart puts out, work? Any ideas on salt vs. chlorine? Thanks - Amy

An SWG produces chlorine from salt, so it's just an "automated" method of adding chlorine daily, versus adding another form, liquid or otherwise, manually.

Most on here recommend either daily liquid chlorine additions or SWGs. Alternative chems like Ecosmart aren't worth the trouble associated with them or the cost, and usually don't live up to their claims.

Salt systems, we call them SWG, are an excellent choice. They allow you to use a lower chlorine level than you need with other systems and the salt improves how the water feels on your skin.

The key thing to understand about chlorine in swimming pools is that just about everything people complain about, related to chlorine, comes from pools that are very poorly maintained (which is much more common than you might think). A properly maintained chlorine pool will almost never cause a problem. I use a SWG, which means there is chlorine in the pool, and people who come over to swim are constantly asking me what I use instead of chlorine! They can't smell the characteristic "chlorine" smell that comes from a poorly maintained pool, so they think there isn't any chlorine.
