Need A Little Clarification

I have slammed my pool and chemistry is great.
I test my free chlorine in the evening after the sun sets and usually get a level of 5 (my goal for CY is 6).
I usually put 1 gallon of bleach in every night to raise the level to 10 and by the next day it will usually fall to about 5 if the sun has been out.
This just seems like a lot of bleach and chlorine to be using.
Does my method seem reasonable?
Is the amount of bleach reasonable?

That is an excessively high FC loss every day. Can you post a full set of test results?

Did you pass the three criteria to stop the SLAM process?

It did meet all criteria. Got the clearest water ever. No combined chlorine and passed overnight test.

What about cleaning out behind lights, under ladders, in cleaners, pool toys or other places where algae likes to hide?

That is sage advise. You can have hidden algae that creeps into the water from hidey-places slowly enough that your FC kills it and no CC shows up leading you into a false sense of security. Been there. Try under your weir too.

I was guessing low CYA. Apparently not. Might try another OCLT.
