Water Behind Liner: No Big Deal?

We have a 33,000 gallon 20x44 inground vinyl liner pool. 3 feet at shallow point, 8.5 feet at deep end that we put in last year.

I've been using the Trouble Free Pool method this season and yes! Awesome and easy.

We developed a liner wrinkle about 2 feet under the deep end ladder. The pool guy came out today and tried to get it out with a plunger. He pulled a bit of the liner out from under the coping and said there was some water behind the liner. He seemed to think this was not a big deal. He was able to move the wrinkle around and is going to bring a helper with him and he thinks they can get it out without draining down the pool.

The yard has a gentle slope that was disrupted when the pool went in. On the side with the wrinkle we do have standing water with rain and in the winter time.

What should we do? There is a small trench on the wetter side that is not doing much as the water just fills up and sits there until it is absorbed or evaporates.

Is the water behind the liner a big deal or not? He said it's pretty common because our area has a high water table.

You might want to put a French drain in that trench and divert the water to a more appropriate place.

For now it may be important to equalize the exterior pressure of the standing water with the pool. Focus on draining the standing water with a pump as you add water to the pool to equalize. Otherwise, the wrinkle could be permanent. Pool guy's pump OUTSIDE of the pool might help.
