Skimmer sock option

I saw that one can use a nylon stocking.
I was shipped a DE filter of the wrong size & they didn't want it back.
Is it cool to line my skimmer with it? Or better use the proper sock or the nylon?

Knee high stockings are often good, look for ones with as fine a weave as possible. Keep in mind that you will often go through a couple of skimmer socks (or whatever substitute you are using) in a season, so you want to use something inexpensive.
