I have spent a lot of time searching for information concerning pool construction problems. Our construction began in June. I should have known we were in trouble when they cut the power line we paid $1900 to move. Nearly yanked the meter of the wall.
It seems like every Phase of construction has had problems. We were on vacation when they did the gunite. I came home to find that the top edge of the back wall was 8" thinner on one side. Although the inside of the pool was a straight line the back side tapered from one end to the other. I was told that the tile guy would fix it with mud so that both sides of the wall would be the same width when completed. But he did nothing. Consequently, the concrete guy improperly lined up his form on that side. The taper continued all the way to the fence where it was measured to be off by a foot. This would have caused the loss of several square feet of deck space.
The biggest issue, however, has been the flagstone coping and stacked rock walls. Strikingly similar to a post I read on this forum dated 2011. The golden buckskin color we chose was not what was put on the pool. It was reddish pink or rosa. Did not even come close to matching the tile we picked. My wife was in tears so I confronted the PB. It was a battle to say the least. I won't bore you anymore than I already have, but I am a lawyer. Ultimately, they agreed to demo the pink stone and install the correct color. To make sure it was right this time, my wife and I went to the stoneyard and picked 3 pallets of flagstone. The difference was night and day. Amazingly, it matched our tile too. Go figure.
Here is the current issue. The "tile guy" and his crew were less than thrilled to demo the pink disaster and start over. I actually stayed home the day they installed the new stone. I have 2 stacked stone walls 25' long each and approx 2.5-3' high. The pink job had 2 guys working meticulously with a level and mortar while a third guy cut stone and they finished about 1/3 of the wall in a day. This time, only one guy stacking stone and he did twice as much in the same amount of time. It seemed like He was throwing mud and stone in the wall, never used a level, and really did not care how it looked. Now, there are places in the wall where there is more mortar than stone, cracked mortar, holes in mortar, etc. I noticed the same problem on the fire pit that they did the following day.
This work was done this week. Is this normal? Am I stressing over nothing. I will send pics as soon as I figure out how to attach. I appreciate input.
