Hose bib above pump

Hi guys, I have a rather benign question. Our pool installer placed a hose bib about 8 inches above the pump in the pool plumbing, between the pump and filter. I can't figure out what I would use that for or why it would be necessary. Drain water from the filter maybe? Thanks for any answers.

I think it is sometimes added when they pressure test the lines. It is a nice easy way to partially drain water if you need to ... or hook a hose to it and dominate the squirt gun fights in the pool

I'd bet it would as handy as a pocket on a shirt for priming the pump without removing the lid- hook it up with a washing machine hose ( female bibs on each end) to a regular garden hose and prime away. It would also be handy for getting your water test samples.

Here in Calif. It's to drain water from the pool. Which is idiotic because it never rains here. LOL!

I have one too, and as mentioned, it's a handy way to drain if you don't have a lot to drain. Can use the water hose to run a sprinkler too.

I always thought the hose bib was used to blow out the lines for winterization or repair?

I found that it is useful to release some of the pressure if I have trouble removing the pump lid.

It would also be handy for getting your water test samples.

I don't think I'd rely on it for water samples as it kind of goes against the convention of dipping in one's sample bottle 12"+ below the waterline but it could keep one a tad drier.

Ah, excellent point! Doggone it...wish I had plumbed one in. Now I gotta see where I might be able to sneak one in....

When I redid my pad plumbing I meant to plumb one in. . But then I went and forgot.
