Which HP pump for Caretaker

Hello,

I have a Caretaker 99 in-floor system in my pool. After doing some of the math for my pool I came to the determination that I should have a 1.5HP pump instead of my currently vastly under powered .75HP, old, single-speed. I was wondering if I needed to add more power and go to a 2 HP system, or even more powerful.

Current stats -
20,000 Gallon
.75 HP - single speed
Diatomaceous Earth filter
Caretaker - 99

Any help would be much appreciated.

THANKS!

How did you end up with a 3/4 HP? It is hard to say if a 1.5 HP would be sufficient but I believe most in-floors are designed with a 2 HP full rated pump. What is the current pressure at the cleaner valve and what does it need to be?

Also, the HP does not tell the the full story. A 3/4 HP Whisperflo may actually move more water than a 1.5 HP Superflo.

Can you be more specific about what pump you have? Although as Mark said, a 3/4HP is likely too small.
