My money is on "empty". Without the weight and pressure of the water I could see this happening. In fact, I think it is one of the reasons you aren't supposed to leave your pool empty.
Sew this on the news earlier today. After it happened they called 911...I guess emergency services needed a good laugh
Sorry guys, I've been a pool guy forever and back in the early 90's here in SoCal heavy rains caused several pools to pop out of the ground. One of them I serviced. It was full of water Just shows the power of water!
Cor blimey, I hope it wasn't the new poster who asked about emptying the pool for delayed repairs......
Now, if a pool company was doing the work, they'd be responsible...right?? But they'd also have probably drilled some well points or drain holes I guess.

In California, we would usually have the customer sign a waiver in case their pool popped. It probably wouldn't hold up in court but, you know "that's pool biz".
