Hayward heater making loud banging noise

Hi there all,
I've been using my heater on and off for the last 2 months or so. Just the other day, I turned it on and after about 5 minutes of run time it started rattling and making a loud banging noise. I immediately turned the heater off and it the noise stopped, but the pump was still running. Any ideas as to what could be going on in there?

It's probably overheating due to inadequate water flow. Try backwashing your filter or running on recirculate and see if it still happens.
