Back washed last nite. Noticed I had some sand on the ground after. Not a lot but some. Problem?

Could be. Was your sand bed level to high, or did you recently change the sand? If not, then you start thinking about broken laterals etc. Usually if something is broken in your filter, then sand will return to your pool.
The filter is about 5 years old and I never changed the sand. When back washing would the sand come from the pool or the filter?
Where do I go from here? Can I repair it or do I need a new filter?

A little sand out the backwash is no big deal. During a backwash you're agitating the sand pretty good and it's going out the in pipe which doesn't have laterals to stop it.

Yes I always rinse. It has been awhile since I back washed. Also is 5 yrs .....old for sand? My pressure holds pretty steady at 15 psi n water looks good/ clear.
Have a very similar filter/problem over here. Was getting a little bit of sand shooting back into the pool after backwashing and rinsing. Was going to let it go until next season, but my skimmer was leaking, so had to drain anyways. Used the stickied hose cleaning method for about an hour and got a whole bunch of junk out, then realized my pvc pipe leading to my laterals has a crack running down it. Now I'm going to order a new pipe and laterals and probably get some new clean sand in there while I'm at it. One problem just leads to another. Hope your Heyward behaves better than mine.
