Above ground pool lighting

Hello everyone. I am thinking of installing some underwater lighting into my pool. After lowering my water below the level that I want to install the light, is it OK to drill a hole through and area other than the steel part that the skimmer and return is hanging on? Thank you

They make magnetic stick on lights that you might look into in case you didn't know. Also check into the Nightlighter.
