Replaced a MPV and one threaded union is leaking

Is it ok to remove the 1 1/2 inch threaded male union installed with teflon tape from the MPV and reinstall it? If so, what should I use to connect; telfon tape or plumbers putty?

For those larger pipes, I think the Teflon pipe dope works better than the tape.

Thank you. It is a very small leak, but I want no leaks. It is ok to remove the union and reseat with Teflon pipe dope?

Sure. Just don't over tighten it.
I have one that leaks, but not enough for me to want to put in the effort to fix it. And the water loss is minimal.

I've sometimes used both Teflon tape and Teflon paste to good effect many times.

Thank you both. I am on the fence about loosening the joint now as it is such a small drip. I'll sit on this information for a few days!
