We are on the recovery side of a very Green Pool. This morning I back washed the pool after filtering all night. I then topped off the pool to operating level. Now I'm back to filtering. Our plan is to bring the CYA level down by back washing a couple of times a day then adding water a little at a time until the water clears up.

8:20 AM. FC= 29 drops/R-0871 FC= 14.5

8:30 PM. added 2 Gal. 8.25% bleach.
9:30 PM. FC=17.5 CC=0 TC=17.5.
Will test OCLT in the morning.
If the OCLT is not in proper range we will replace the sand in the filter. Sand is about 6 years old.

You shouldn't need to replace the sand in the filter. What you can do is deep clean the sand and break up any clumps. Remove the access dome and gently poke a water hose down into the sand. Try to avoid hitting the laterals. Let the water from the hose flow into the filter so dirty water and gunk flows out the top. Pull the hose out and re-insert an inch away and let the dirty water flow out again. Repeat this process over the entire surface of the sand bed. Once it has been cleaned put the top back on and set the multiport to rinse. Rinse the sand for a couple of minutes to re-seat the sand bed, and then set it back to filter.
