Sunset here is at 8:52 today in my location. Can I start the OCLT at 8:53 as quick as the sun is below the horizon? Or does indirect sunlight affect it meaning I should start later? If later, how much later?

The are different definitions of "dark." Civil dusk is about 30 minutes after sunset in my area at this time of year, and the horizon and terrestrial objects are easily distinguished still. Nautical dusk is about 40 minutes after that, the horizon is barely visible and the general outlines of ground objects are still distinguishable. Astronomical dusk is still 50 minutes later, the horizon and ground objects are indistinguishable, and astronomical objects are fully visible. So if I want to wait until it is "fully dark," I have to wait until about 11:00 to start the OCLT. That is past my bed time LOL.

Bedtime, just to be sure. In my case that means some time between 9:30 and 11:00. Sun-up is also subjective. This time of year, I'd say about 4:45.
