Adding chemicals in the winter in NJ?

Hey all it's been a while.
We've been contemplating adding chemicals to our pool now.
The pool store reccomends liquid shock and algacide...
My question is can I use bleach instead of liquid shock?
Almost 30,000 pool...how much bleach and also how much algacide?
Thanks in advance for your responses...

No real need to add anything until the water hits 60. For sure don't add chlorine in any form to a vinyl lined pool without the pump running.

They are the same chemical and sometimes even the same strength! Bleach is usually 6% or 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and liquid shock (AKA liqiud chlorine) is most commonly 12.5% but also found in 6% and 10% concentrations. You can use the pool calculator (link in my signature) once the water warms up and you get the pump running to figure out how much you need to add (AND how much of ANY chemical you need to add! :goodjob: )
