Intex saltwater upgrade

Hi all!!
I have an intex salt water system with a cartridge filter. Id like to upgrade to a sand filter. I have a chance to buy a 16" intex sand filter pump.
Since I already have the intex saltwater system, could I unplug my cartridge filter and adapt the sand filter pump?
My other concern is both pumps running?
Has this been done before ?
my pool is a rectangle 18x9x52"
Or 4500 gallons

Good choice , not need to run pumps in sequence the 16" come with a 0.95 hp motor, more than enough...

I still need to run the saltwater pump though in order to generate chlorine right?
Should I disable the pump on the saltwater system as well as the cartridge filter?

if that is a combo, I am not sure but I think is not needed, tray with the combo pump off and see if the swg is working, look at the settings for the combo, I think they can work separated

This is the salt system I have and the pump I can get for cheap.
I'd like to integrate the two.

yes, thats the discontinue sand filter from intex and the combo swg pump, look at the book from the combo I think there is a setting where you can run them separated in any case I will remove the filter in the combo

Yes, or if you are willing, there is a new SWG in Amazon for $99 and sell the combo in Craig list
It's better to run this system separated, this is how is recommended here

I live in Canada, the shipping is the same price as the unit arrrg!!!!
I may try to either disconnect the cartridge filter underneath the unit or connect the two together.
The separate swg has a flow rate of 1650. I figure I should be able to connect the two together and take out the cartridge
