Need a robot for fine dirt/sand...

The Poolvergnuegen doesn't have any filter, it's just a suction cleaner, but I think a much better one than the classic Kreepy Krauly. Just the noise of the Kreepy Krauly I found unacceptable, and I don't want to know what the neighbours were thinking. In my setup (1980ties pool) I have to use...

Need a robot for fine dirt/sand...

I replaced the Kreepy Krauly that the previous house owner left with a Poolvergnuegen "The PoolCleaner". Very happy with it. Quiet, doesn't get stuck in corners, works over a wide range of pump speeds.

Tiger Shark goes to the deep end and stays there

Welcome to the forum, Jeff! I don't have a robot, so I can't really help you. Just a couple of questions to get the discussion going. Has the cleaner been working fine until now, and the problem just started? Or is this a new cleaner?

Nautilus CC Plus works 7 out of 10 times

I can't really help you with that question, I don't have a robot. Just want to give this thread a bump so you'll hopefully soon get a most excellent answer.

    Pool vaccum gets entangled

You should be able to just replace broken hose segments and/or connectors.

    Pool vaccum gets entangled

I suspect that with the hose leaking the cleaner can't pull with the required force to straighten out the entanglement anymore. Replace the broken hose segments and it'll likely be OK again. Or you have found evidence for quantum entanglement in multidimensional pool hose strings. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

    S400 vs M600 robotic cleaner

Can't give you much advice on robots, been using a Poolvergnügen myself. Generally happy with it. But yes, larger leaves are a problem. Should you buy a robot, please share your success with nuclear Aussie leaves, and if the robot is doing a better job with them than the suction cleaner.

    Alternative to Vacum to waste

The other thing is: I just looked into your test logs. Turns out that your FC is too low. Often zero. Your problem is that you keep producing algae, which turns into dust when killed. 1) Do an 2) Follow the 3) Keep maintaining FC according to . Run high on this chart, not low. The min value...

    Alternative to Vacum to waste

By the way:It's easier to follow a thread, when you don't type a reply inside the quotation box, but outside of it. Otherwise people always have to expand the box to read the actual reply.

    Alternative to Vacum to waste

You have a variable speed pump, right? You could also try to vac to waste on really low pump speed, that might reduce the waste a bit. But my experience is that a certain speed is needed so that the stuff gets vacuumed up before it has a chance to puff up.

    Alternative to Vacum to waste

You could add some DE powder to your to sand filter (has to be pool grade DE, not garden grade): https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/add-de-to-a-sand-filter/

    So this just happened....

Pool noodles are great. I use a chunk as a floater on my home made frog ramp. Initially built as a blue tongue lizard ramp, therefore a bit sturdier. Kookaburras took the blueies, left it in the pool for frogs, but they seem to prefer the ride through the suction cleaner to the ramp.

    Noisy Pool Cleaner

The Pool Cleaner comes with a regulator valve like that one here: https://www.directpoolsupplies.com.au/speed-control-valve You have to open that valve enough so that less water gets sucked through the cleaner, slowing it down so it doesn't climb as high up the walls. Or, if you have a...

    So this just happened....

Thanks for sharing the complete life cycle of your robot with us, Matt. I was toying for a while with the idea of replacing my suction cleaner with a robot, but kept wondering if it's really worth the money. I think your story was the last nail into this idea's coffin.

    Cleaning Suction Side Pool Cleaner

Your PoolMath log says that you have FC 2ppm and CYA 80ppm. Increase FC to the target range for your CYA according to the . Then, I would suggest to do an . There might be more algae. If yes, then you will have to do a .

How long should I run vacuum?

Great write-up of your setup, Dirk. One question: when you take cleaner and hose out, where and how do you store them for the day? I always struggle to find a good spot where the hose doesn't lie coiled up in the sun, or not coiled up but getting dirty, so I tend to leave it in the pool, tied...

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

I actually thought that both holes would be working, and that's why you were thinking about that basket. The skimmer gets pretty useless anyway, if it's only the regulator valve drawing water in. But at least it keeps chlorinated water inside the skimmer box. I still have to remove the cleaner...

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

You can give it a go. Do I get that right that both holes in your skimmer box are pulling in water, one through the hose, and one through the basket keeping skimming going? In that case it could help to have the adjuster valve outside the skimmer box, where the leave density would be highest...

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

But that still doesn't solve the problem that larger debris being sucked in by cleaner from the bottom of the pool gets straight to the pump basket. And yes, debris blocking the flow adjuster and speeding up the cleaner again, is a constant problem. Only solution there is to adjust the flow via...

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

You shouldn't have to manipulate the leaf basket. Usually, in the skimmer there is a ledge for a vacuum plate - just a plate with a rubber seal and a hole for the cleaner hose, like in the picture in my first post. Then you can just leave the normal leaf basket in the skimmer, under the vacuum...

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

You need something to catch larger debris before it gets to the pump. You could either try a vacuum plate for the skimmer, so you can leave the basket in, or use an inline leaf catcher.

    Pool Vergnuegen cleaner

As stated above, you need to control the suction either by pump speed, a three way valve, or an adjustable valve at the suction port. If you are connecting the cleaner through a plate with the skimmer, you can also get a skimmer plate with integrated valve. They are designed as "auto skimmer...

New here and have bought a vacuum that won't fit vacuum outlet.

Another option is to get a vacuum plate for the skimmer. I plug mine in like that. The advantage of that is that you can leave the skimmer basket in. In any case, you might need some sort of adapter to make it fit. But you can usually get a vacuum plate with a hole size that fits your hose...

    I kid you not ...

Maybe I should finally get a robot. Keep telling my son not to leave any toys in the pool. My PoolCleaner doesn't swallow them, just gets stuck with a toy in its throat.
