    Muriatic Acid Consumption and Borates

[How in the world did people care for their pools before the age of the internet?] Amen to that. And especially TFP !! I live in Italy and rely on this excellent web site as a professional text book. thanks to all those who give up so much of their time to contribute answers to us newbies and...

    Temperature Effect???

I googled temp effect on CSI and came up with this post. I use Pool Calculator app and measure both CSI in pool at 68 degrees and hot tab at 102 degrees Assuming pH at 7.8, TA at 80. Borates and CYA both at 40, CsI changes from .1 at lower temp to .39 at higher temp Why?

what causes CYA to fall ? (no splash out!)

Richard raises an interesting point: chlorine could oxidize the CYA over months. (Rain water addition offsets evaporation so as long as there is no splashout, the CYA level should remain teh same) Re this oxidation, if a pool isnt except by my wife and me during the summer, could it be that...

what causes CYA to fall ? (no splash out!)

I am a very happy BBB user thanks to TFP. Very stable pH and TA (Liquidator as well, with solid results) Opened the pool after last year's use of Dichlor (before BBB) with CYA of 110. Drained the pool water to start season at 85. A few months it was own to 75 and now 55, which I know is a...

black ring at water level, vinyl in-ground pool

Waterbear, thanks. this black line seems like a smudge or grime, and does not have an oily feel. (we dont use sun tan lotions, altho I know body oils are oils too) Q: in the "paste of baking soda and water", does the baking soda have a chemical reaction with this "grime" to remove it? Or is...

black ring at water level, vinyl in-ground pool

Checking thru posts, I see this black ring at water level is referred to as a "scum line" Is there a natural product (like baking soda is used in BBB and that is readily available in supermarket or hardware stores) that can be used to remove it without upsetting chem balance?

High CYA, High TA: a connection?

I have high CYA (200+), since I havent drained my hot tub since learning about BBB method. (now I am using bleach.) TA is actually very high too (150+) but Saturation Index is close to zero, based on Taylor Watergram. Taylor explains a "CYA correction to TA" but mentions that "some members of...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

Jason, in trying to understand boric acid strength, i googled and came up with a site rosemill.com. They have various products which I imagine are typical. One product "technical grade" is 99 % pure B2O3 but seemingly less in content: 56% minimum B2O3. The same for "pH grade". there is...

So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

For using boric acid to add borates, does the Pool Calculator assume the "highest quality, greater than 99% Purity Boric Acid (H3BO3)" ? If not, what "strength" ? Thanks
