What is the best sequesterant to use after AA treatment?

Jack's magic the pink stuff, should work, but you'll have to continue usage to keep it fully stain free. If the iron is out of solution after adding chlorine and the water turns green, you can put poly fill in the skimmer to try capturing the iron, but it won't work after the sequestrant puts...

    Caramel Colored Stains

You might see if your water bureau offers free water quality reports. Mine does and it indicated a very slight amount of iron. It took about 3 years from when my liner was installed before the light amount of staining began to appear. Even a trace will eventually cause issues.

    Caramel Colored Stains

Looks like it could be iron. Try crushing some vitamin c tablets in a sock then apply to the area. It should lighten up within a few seconds to a minute . If it does, it's iron.

Something to keep an eye out for …

I lose at least 20ppm some times more every winter. Pool is uncovered. Previous owners used a tab feeder I promptly removed after buying the place.

I bet they will. My skimmer weir gets brown like that. I have trace iron from City water.

    Doing an AA treatment

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the iron needs to be out of solution to be effective in getting absorbed by the polyfill. I can get mine out of solution by adding the first chlorine on opening day. (Turns green and back to blue in a week or so/goes back into solution). The...

Any cases where a Latham vinyl liner is permanently stained?

My liner has iron stains. They look identical to yours. James has good advice, try it again with crushed vitamin c tablets.

    Identify stain

Try some crushed vitamin c in a sock. If it disappears in a few minutes, it's iron.

Need help with in-progress ascorbic acid treatment

I think setsailsoon had some sort of goo as well when he did his AA treatment. I have an AA to do as well. But waiting for spring opening day when fc will be zero and water cold enough that no algae can start.

Has anyone had calcium buildup anywhere in their systems pouring Cal Hypo into skimmer?

Pucks in the skimmer can be especially dangerous for vinyl lined pools. When the pump isn't running you'll have super high levels in the skimmer and surrounding vinyl. One person ended up with the liner all cracked & broken up at the skimmer mouth and had to replace it.

FYI - Surprising Sources Of Metal In Pool Water Identified And Fixed (Update)

The "almost nonexistent" is my case as well. My water supply co recently showed on test results that 1 of their 3 water sources has traces of iron, where the others have none at all. I've been getting that brownish / orange stain in my skimmer since I bought the place in 2015. I don't get any...

FYI - Surprising Sources Of Metal In Pool Water Identified And Fixed (Update)

Good to know. I bookmarked your well researched post. Holy cow that was a TON of blue-stuff you used! I'll probably try the layers of polyfill in the skimmer first if it does turn green. Then your methodology if that doesn't help. Some have succesfully removed or heavily reduced their...

Really?? I thought that was only for Metal out and the Jack's was more of a temporary solution to the problem (green to blue water)

FYI - Surprising Sources Of Metal In Pool Water Identified And Fixed (Update)

I'm on municipal water but found recently on a water test report that some of the water sources do have metals. Not much, but enough that every other year, when I add the first chlorine the water turns green. The last two times this happened I just replaced half the pool water which got the...

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

I'm not sure that would be as effective wrapping it inside a shirt. You want the poly fill to be layered inside the skimmer. Then like push it down into the skimmer to keep it from floating, just make sure the water has to get through it and can't go around it.

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

Probably not because your iron concentration is so high. I just mentioned it because I do have a minor iron problem. The concentration is super low though. I really don't otherwise know why it works, but it does.

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

I'm not on a well but do get a little bit of iron in my city water. To the point that every other year, when adding the first chlorine after winter, I get that light green tint. What I have done in the past is replace about 1/3 of it to get it blue again which doesn't make much sense, but...

Iron in municipal water..not from a well.

Thanks Matt. Ya it really isn't that bad and I do feel fortunate to not be on a well, as it could be much much worse. I was trying to search the site I know someone had mentioned the number of when iron is a problem, but couldn't find it to compare with the Iron content line item from the water...

Iron in municipal water..not from a well.

I just received a report from my city water supplier and noted the following line item: IRON: none to 0.197, secondary mcl 0.30 Interesting notes on the Iron content. Is this the reason why I have the problem? Seem like maybe I need to get some of that Jack's magic pink stuff to get rid of...

When I brush my hand across my plaster pool a while dust flies up everytime, why?

agreed. 6-7k is pretty low cost compared to other parts of the country. It is a significant chunk of money though.

When I brush my hand across my plaster pool a while dust flies up everytime, why?

I'm all too familiar with this having inherited a painted pool on my first house. As Matt pointed out pricing is very regional. In my area at the time the quote for a basic white replaster was $ 7000. I ended up selling that house before doing it though.

Oak tree leaves and "copper" staining

I get just a slight bit of staining on the skimmer mouth and inside the skimmer at the water level. A bit more annoying than a problem. I have to get close and look right at it to see. What I do is use a magic eraser to clean it off, then I don't see it again until 1 or 2 years later. weird...

vinyl pool, how far can i drain?

I had to do a water exchange. Don't like draining down at all except for a few inches since my newish liner was a very tight fit...don't want to stress it. With the pool pump off the entire time: I ran a small sub-pump in the skimmer to my gutter drain. At the same time that was emptying, I put...

    Ph drops over winter. Why?

I know mine (uncovered and at fill level over winter each year) has the ph go down every winter too. Not very far down, but not staying at 7.5 that it was when closing. Lots of rain fill and draining the excess fill over that time. I think it is the rain.

    Differential Draining of Pool Water

Excellent. I had to do this recently as well. I have a very odd phenomena whereby there is a slight iron build up after winter, every other year. I find myself with light green tint after adding the first chlorine of the year. It makes ZERO sense as I don't get green prior to that during swim...
