Hi from a noob in over her head

De is the best filter you can get... Filters down to the smallest particles. Even if the filter were under sized, it would just need more backwashing, not none. Try backwashing and putting de again, maybe you measured wrong last time? I know little about de filters, but if you have a cloudy...

Hi from a noob in over her head

You should check your filter pressure after a backwash and backwash again when it rises 20-25% over the clean pressure. So if your clean pressure is 16, you'd backwash at 20. Or if you notice the water flow is reduced. Edit: Also, if your pressure is rising, id say it must be working at...

Hi from a noob in over her head

Have you been backwashing and adding de after backwash?

Hi from a noob in over her head

Put up a few pictures of it. There's lots of folks here working with old equipment that can help you identify and get it in order

Newbie, firing the pool store, please help clear up green pool

That is unfortunate. What have you been adding the last couple times? I would keep doing that and slowly scale it down as it gets better. I would also buy the reagent from Amazon with 1 day shipping. I wouldn't want to blindly add too much bleach and bleach the liner. Are you using a 25ml...

Newbie, firing the pool store, please help clear up green pool

Every pump and filter combo are different. After a good backwash and rinse check your pressure. That's your clean pressure. As the filter picks up things the pressure goes up. When it rises 20-25% over that, or if you notice reduced flow, it's time for a backwash. The DE will make it pick up...

Newbie, firing the pool store, please help clear up green pool

DE is diatomecious earth. It is a type of media that some filters are specifically made for. You have a filter that uses sand as a media. DE filters are much better than sand filters. However, in my opinion (and I know I'll incur the wrath of many folks here) are waaaay too much of a hassle...

Newbie, firing the pool store, please help clear up green pool

Hard to say really... In my totally subjective, non-expert, statistically invalid estimation: An "opening slam" after winter can last a while. But usually this type of "mid-season" slam lasts less than a week with only heavy bleach use the first couple days. It all depends on how far gone you...

Hey, look! A pool came with this house!

Sodium bisulfate is perfectly fine to use. Just more expensive, but I use it because I hate liquid muriatic acid. Don't adjust ph until your chlorine drops below 10 as your drop test will generally read too high when chlorine is above 10

Hey, look! A pool came with this house!

Your shock level is 20. So if your pool is looking clear enough to see the bottom, id just keep it right at 20 ppm then at swim time uncover the pool and let it sit in the Sun to drop below 20 so you don't lose any progress. If you stay on the slam and adding de this weekend, there's a good...

Hey, look! A pool came with this house!

Turnover rate and all that isn't important. All that matters in pump size is: does it run any extras you have (fountains, solar panels, etc) and does it move enough water through the filter to keep it clean, which you you don't know until you've been using your pool awhile. As for the filter...

    Overwhelmed!!

Chlorine (bleach) and borax for me. Some people never have to raise ph so don't keep borax. Some people always have to lower the ph so they keep muriatic acid too.

Losing chlorine and low calcium hardness

Bring the ph down, before slamming, to 7.2 Chlorine works better at lower ph and your ph test won't work at high chlorine so you need to adjust it first.

Losing chlorine and low calcium hardness

Yup. Slam is the answer! Using that much chlorine overnight means you have something growing in there... You're lucky: you caught it early before it got green or cloudy, so slam should be relatively short. Slam means you bring it up to shock level for your cya, according to the chlorine/cya...

    Hello from Manitoba, Canada!

Btw: once you have the kit, you can usually reorder individual reagents on Amazon by searching for the number. Theyre quite pricey but if you only need one or two a year it's much simpler then popping over to the us.

    Hello from Manitoba, Canada!

I'm from Winnipeg. To get the test kit, I ordered to a parcel pickup in North Dakota. Asked the folks at tftestkits to slap a "made in USA" sticker on it. As a made in USA product, it's NAFTA exempt and you don't have to worry about the duties or staying a minimum time. Stay far away from...

New pool owner. Is there a reason no one uses chlorine tablets?

Some people here have cut their solar covers into pieces, like a pie, to make them easier to pick off. I personally wouldn't recommend that because if you want to get a reel at some point that makes it more difficult.

New pool owner. Is there a reason no one uses chlorine tablets?

The winter cover will keep the UV light that destroys chlorine out. It will also do a great job keeping debris out during your renovation. It won't do good at retaining heat, if that's a concern, and it's probably cumbersome to take on and off. If you buy a solar bubble cover it will be easier...

New pool owner. Is there a reason no one uses chlorine tablets?

I use a 1/2 gallon every other day. It's 23000 gallons. I keep it covered whenever it's not in use and have the cya at 30.

New pool owner. Is there a reason no one uses chlorine tablets?

Welcome. As long as you understand the effect of the tabs on cya and why too much cya is bad its all good. Just pop them in the chlorinator following the manufacturers recommendations. If refilling the water is more convenient for you then adding bleach, it's all good. Tfp is about whatever...

    New from Canada

Hey all, I've been reading the forum for awhile and decided to finally join. I bought a house with a pool 2 years ago (moved out of one with a hot tub) and the previous owners hadn't covered the pool for the long Canadian winter so when I tried to get it going the pool store was no help and...
