First-time homeowner with a pool. Water was green. Started the process, but lost.

In response to your feeling that you can’t focus (time or money) on the pool right now, I would focus on your salt water generator. If it’s working, you could run that and not have to buy chlorine. That would save you time travel to the store to get it and money from having to purchase the...

Hey - Looking Forward to Learning the TFP Method

That’s exactly what I do and it works fine.

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

Yeah, you’re still killing algae, if there’s any left. Just lost a day in order to get a good overnight test. Hopefully you’ll be all set.

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

Hoping for an update on the pool and the party. Maybe tomorrow morning?

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

Yes, I’m wondering if your stabilizer is too low. Thus, your SWG not being able to keep up in the hot (sunny weather).

I feel ghosted. :) Where did you go rich? Looking for an update.

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

What are you getting for your CYA reading?

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

That makes sense, but I’d still grab a quick sample right from the jet and see if it’s got chlorine. I’d just use the OTO side of the PH tester and make sure it‘s good and yellow. It should read over 5ppm right out of the jet. Personally, I think it’s a stabilizer issue.

Salt Cell - is this clean or dirty?

Turn your SWG on to 100% and take a water sample right in front of your outlet jet. That will tell you if you‘re at least producing chlorine. I had your problem and it was a stabilizer problem. I didn’t have enough. What is your reading for CYA and where are you getting your reads from - pool...

    Is this “The Mark?”

I use a hair net as a skimmer sock. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XK2FS0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I put about a pound in one of those nets, tie it closed and place it in my skimmer. It dissolves about a pound per day. There’s no real quick way that I’m aware...

Starting the Journey after the Pool Guy spurned me

My daughter was a Senior in high school. Looking for a photographer she Googled "Senior Pictures". That didn't go well. Eww. Be careful out there.

    New Pool Owner—green again.

Learning Question (not advice): Why wouldn’t it be okay to add more chlorine? It would kill me to see my pool that green. In that vein, how is the person going to do a CYA test with the water that green? Again, not advice - I would want to put some CYA in there to help with the chlorine and...

Starting the Journey after the Pool Guy spurned me

I think if I couldn’t find a pool specialist to install the equipment you‘re buying, I’d look for a plumber. It’s basically a plumbing job. Then, if there is some electrical work you‘re not comfortable with, hire an electrician. I’m lucky enough to know some guys who would do this kind of...

    PB bailed on pool startup.

I would 100% get some chlorine in there asap. Didn’t they turn on your SWG? With a temp of 62 you’re not going swimming for a little while so don’t worry about too much chlorine. Go get a couple gallons and use the calculator to add enough to get you between 4 and 10ppm. Your CYA is too low...

Newbie, TF-100 kit compared to pool store readings

If you feel bad about returning the chemicals, just discard them. You can do that later (anytime), just give these guys a chance to show you the way. You'll see it's worth it in the end. I have a pool store near me that uses the same products. I still get my liquid chlorine from them and I...

Where do you store your muriatic acid?

I know this thread is very old, but wanted to add my method of storing MA. I went to Home Depot and got a 5 gallon homer bucket with a lid. The lid has a decent rubber seal. I took the bucket behind my shed and buried it half way in the ground. That was for stability. I put the gallon...

Hole in the liner in the deep end. Caused from Muriatic Acid?

I got a new car once and it looked like it had a scratch in windshield. I messed with it with my fingernail and then even took a pocket knife to it and convinced myself it was in the glass and not something on the glass. So I took it to the dealer and asked what we could do short of replacing...

    What's pooping in my pool?

Exactly what I do. I’ve never understood the willingness to remove a dead mouse/rat from the trap just to save a few bucks. Ewww. I just pick the trap up with some pliers or my grabber thing and in the trash they go. Love traps over any thing like poison so I know what’s being caught and...

A very naive pool owner here!

Here‘s the manual. Manufacturers have been great to put this stuff on line. If it’s not the right on, google the name and model number followed by “manual” and it should go right to it. https://www.pentairpoolme.com/uploads/document/file/1284/IntelliChem_Manual.pdf

A very naive pool owner here!

Careful with the muriatic acid. Proper storage and handling are very important. I just started using it for my first time a few days ago and the information on this site made a huge difference in my comfort level with handling it. Don’t take it lightly. Do your reading and things will go a...

    Storing MA

I’m making the switch to MA from a dry granular product. I’ve read a few posts about storage and am going to just put it outside. I’m thinking I’ll just put the bottle in a milk type crate so that it does not tip over. I have a nice place near my equipment pad, but that’s where my question...
