    Stuff from the previous owners

That rolled up hose is needed as well when you back-wash the filter. Might keep the algaecide 60, and the floater for vacation.

New Pool Owner - Need Help Balancing Pool Chemicals

XtraBlue ..... is the hidden additive for metal. You do not want to start battling metal stains. Do your "Shocking" with regular bleach only.

Tiny rocks/big-grain sand on pool floor

Put a heavy duty skimmer sock in your skimmer. The rocks/sand will get trapped before they hit your pump.

New to pools, pool guy seems to have done nothing for us

My 2 cents: The guy that came to open the pool for you, the guy you complained about wasting $200.- on, was trained by the usual pool store. Be prepared to get the same bad advice and results at the store.

New to the forum...8 year pool store visitor :)

What I have done in the past.... Hook up filter and pump, fill up with water and start the pump. Check Ph, CYA, etc Add chemical needed with the cover still on. On a nice day, clean cover and remove. Throw in the pool cleaner and recheck all levels. But with the TFP method my water is clear...

High CYA trying to figure out what to do

If you have trouble with the reading, repeat several times. Just pour the solution back into mixing bottle and redo. No need to use new water and new reagent. (Don't ask how I know about this;) )

    Liquid Chlorine tips?

I also pour into a marked 1 gal bottle. But I cut out a large opening behind & underneath the handle. Easy to pour into without a funnel. Then I submerge near a return to mix into the water.

    Pool Water Loss

Have you tried the "Bucket Test"? Fill a bucket with water and set on a step in your pool. The level in the bucket should be at the same level as in the pool. Wait and observe. If it is evaporation, both levels should stay at the same level. If your pool has a leak, the water in the bucket...

New here, want to learn how to do a semi inground pool

More deck and more sun is always better. (That's my opinion) Add a few feet to the footprint of the pool for retaining wall, uprights, and so on.

    algae and no chlorine

First, let me tell you that I am sorry about your pool problems. Second, I think you need to read up on Pool School again. In order to SLAM your pool, you need to keep the chlorine level UP at all times, do not let it come down!! Or you get your result of recurring algea. The SLAM level for...

Very Low FC, Very High CC

Since the CYA went up with your use of diclor, your target FC needs to go up as well. Double check the chart

    Can't get pool clear

Are you sure that the level neverwent below shock value at any time? If it did, that means you are starting from scratch at that point. The algae would just come back during that time.

An empty pool for the summer?

Why cant he "winterize" the pool during the summer? It would take some extra time to open, but would cost less than $1000 for a company to keep it open. Or have the company come a week or so early and open?

michigan pool, peeked under cover and green already.

I usually hook up my filter after the last big freeze, fill up with the cover still on. Slide the cleaner under the cover, too and let it run. Start balancing the water, but mostly just killing the nasties. By the time the cover comes off, most of the algae is dead and I can finish shocking and...

Sorry to read and point out this part of your comment. You might not be done shocking. How about draining some of your water to get that CYA in better range?

Not a new pool owner, but stuck on this one

Last vacation was 2 weeks. I put on the winter cover, floated some pucks under it & had the pump on low. Everything was perfect when we came back. Our son came home one weekend, took the cover off, swam, put the cover back. (I hold the cover down with some weights)

my experience (rant) about the Pool Service guy

Why is the "Pool Repair Guy" in the "Poll water maintanance"? This is reflecting badly on the store, since they are recomendim him to the customer. The store needs to find somebody else to do the water maintanance duties!!!

Weird Blue and Gray Spots on the walls of the pool

Don't know about the spots, but the pipe in your filter looks like it's there to help the cartridge stay centered when you put the top back on. (This is my guess, since I have a sand filter with a pipe sticking up, for centering the valve assembly.)

    vacuum feed chlorinator

That would be a neat gadget to have!! Could you post a picture; with your hook-up? I would love to see how it workes. Somebody might be able to come up with a DIY solution.

    Cleaning out a mucky pool

I interpreted it as: filter is on a timer, only running in the evening. To me this meant: filter is not running long enough every day to make any significant head-way to filter out enough gunk. But you are right, with this much stuff, definitly keep an eye on the pressure & backwash as soon as...

    Cleaning out a mucky pool

With gunk like this, shouldn't the filter run 24/7? How about some filter socks, also? With frquent backwashing & refilling with fresh water, your numbers should improve, too. (Don't think that cartridge filters can be backwahed) Keep adding chlorine!!!

Best month to open my pool

I checked my water yesterday. FC : 2 CC : .5 CYA : 30 Temp 50 My water is still below the skimmer, the cover still on. To stop the algea from getting out of hand before opening, I slipped a floater under the cover with 3 pucks set on slow release. Hopefully this will be OK until next month...

The blue + gray on blue is very hard to read. Otherwise a nice lay-out & easy to navigate. I just did not read anything, since I had a hard time distinguishing between the background and the writing.
