If we go away on vacation how do we BBB users...

I left for a week on vacation at the beginning of July and used trichlor pucks while I was gone. I brought the chlorine up to about twice my normal level before I left, and the pucks kept it from dipping too low. I'm leaving again for a week at the end of the month, and will use less pucks...

    Bleach adds salt?

That certainly sets my mind at ease a bit. We ended up building our pool ourselves, but when we were getting quotes from pool builders, 3 of them said they wouldn't do Kool deck with a SWG because the salt was bad for it. (You had to do acrylic instead.) Thanks again for the information!

    Bleach adds salt?

Thanks Waterbear. What are your thoughts on Kool Deck? It's been the standard decking for many many years, but now I hear that salt pools can eat it.

    Bleach adds salt?

Sorry Jason, I started my last response before yours popped in. Very good information. Thank you.

    Bleach adds salt?

In a recent hotly-debated thread it was pretty much decided that in my area (southern AZ) where we never get rain, have no humidity, and very hot days, salt can have a detrimental effect on stone/decking. I have kool-deck (which is porous) and a rock-waterfall that I believe would succumb to...

    Bleach adds salt?

I've been using the pool calculator to estimate my pool needs since it was built a couple months ago, and the results are spectacular so far. I have a non-swg pool (bbb method), and have no added salt. My question is this: I just realized via the pool calculator that bleach and/or liquid...

How much water loss is normal?

I just did a "bucket test" and found that my pool isn't leaking, and loses over 2" a week from evaporation and/or splash out. I'm in a part of AZ where the daytime temps are above 100F and the nighttime temps are below 60F, and that combination leads to a lot of evaporation. There's another...

    Water loss...how much is normal?????

Finally did the bucket test, and it doesn't look like I have a leak. (Whew!) I'm still surprised that losing this much water is normal, but with the wind and high daytime temperatures and low nightime temperatures lately I guess I should expect it. Thanks for the help!

    Water loss...how much is normal?????

That makes sense, as our lows are still in the 60's. (Gotta love the desert) I notice more evaporation when it's cold outside. Still haven't done the bucket test...spent too much time swimming this weekend instead. I'm sure I'll get to it sometime...

    Water loss...how much is normal?????

Can anybody in AZ share how much their level drops in a week when the weather is warm? My pools only been finished for a few weeks, so I don't know what's "normal". I'ts losing 2-3 inches a week. Is this excessive, or normal for the dry 100+ degree weather in AZ? I haven't yet done a...

    CYA level for AZ pool

Noted. According to the awesome power of the pool calculator, I need to keep a minimum FC of 5.0 with my CYA at 65, which doesn't sound too extreme. Thanks again for your help.

    CYA level for AZ pool

Sweet! I'm within range! Thanks for the help. Just curious, but what are the symptoms of having too high CYA?

    CYA level for AZ pool

A question for the AZ TFPers. I live in a hotter part of Arizona (Marana), and my new pool gets full sun. What level should my CYA be? The temperature is regularly well over 100F for 3-4 months in the summer (Sunday is predicted to be 101), and my CYA is currently 65. I use bleach, and have...

Borax (Borates) allowed in non-SWG pool?

I'm new here, so sorry for the newbie question, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer in any of the posts. My question is this: Is there a benefit to introducing Borax to a non-saltwater pool? Bonus follow up question: Will it do any harm to introduce Borax to a non-saltwater pool...
