Ph/TA plummeted for no reason. This is actually funny!

It really was a bit rude. If I'd have known, I wouldn't have been confused. - - - Updated - - - Yeah. At least I was sure I didn't do it because :lovetfp:

Ph/TA plummeted for no reason. This is actually funny!

So I just opened new SWG pool, which I'm new at. Before it was all about the bleach. A couple days ago, I only had a CYA of 50 so I added more stabilizer. Otherwise I haven't done anything to effect Ph/TA (at least I didn't think so) Yesterday, my numbers where: FC: 9 CC: .5 Ph: 7.6 TA...

Pool store says one thing, what say ye?

Thanks, guys! I think I'm going to skip it and go straight to getting the CYA/FC up. Just wasn't sure as this is a different type pool and much more expensive than the old one was.

Pool store says one thing, what say ye?

I'll check further about metals. I probably have a water breakdown from the city somewhere. I know it's super hard and has tons of chlorine in it, but that's all I know off hand. The rest of your post, I actually understood and know how to do! At least my brain hasn't atrophied yet. Thanks...

Pool store says one thing, what say ye?

Probably so. We have very hard water here and don't have a softener.

Pool store says one thing, what say ye?

After I got used to old Intex pool, it was taken out by tornado. I again am a newbie (will clean up sig file soon) Pool is almost full, and PB says put 1 bottle (32oz) All Clear stain and scale and run pump for 24 hrs. The bottle says 15oz per 10k gallons. My pool is barely 7700 gal. Should...

    SWG pool filter purchasing question

thanks Patrick. I know they are preferred, but if it's not necessary, that's another thing. I don't want to get it just because I think I want it. If one speed works just fine, we can go with that and save some grief by not having to search for the 2 sp. And I might as well switch to TF100 as...

    SWG pool filter purchasing question

Good afternoon, my saviors! Back at pool school learning more about SWG, but right now PB/store says they are looking for a Hayward pump that's 1.5 HP that's 2 speed. She says she's having a hard time finding one because they are usually used for inground pools and can't find a distributor who...

Need new pool advice. Old one taken out by tornado

Hiya, Texy! ;) After going back to pool school, we really do want to go with SWG. It's no harder to understand and way more convenient. No more waking up in the middle of the night trying to remember if we fed the pool! lol Ok so we are looking at similar to what woody has: Cornelius...

Need new pool advice. Old one taken out by tornado

So we weren't sure if we were going to get a new pool until a tornado took out the old intex and we are ready to get a new one. Going with a much sturdier pool that's almost twice as big. (16x32) 48" deep The salt water version is 1k more than the chlorine. I don't want to be cheap on price...

    TFPC pool care service?

I was actually thinking about this as well. Before I had a pool, I never saw people asking about it on Facebook, but now I do. It could be an education process, or taking on the all maintenance with a very small amount of clients for some extra money on the side. I don't see it working as a...

    Frustrated

TGarcia - I wish, for your sake you had found this site before a problem arose. It looks like you've been overloaded with pool store advice over time and it's making everything more complicated than it needs to be. My old pool store said to check CYA "seasonally". How can you know if your FC...

Disgusted and Confused on What to Do Next

You're right it's reliable until your FC goes above 5 then all bets are off. The pool store recommends FC 1-4 (nothing about CC) and CYA between 30-50. Sorry, but NO. They're not distinguishing that your FC levels are directly related to CYA levels. With a CYA level of 45 (40-50) I don't let...

Anyone had a problem with bees, specifically yellow jackets hanging around the pool?

If anyone is having a similar problem, I have an update. Checked a site with pics and these are skinny like yellow jackets but marked more like honey bees. Given that no one has been stung and they don't seem aggressive at all, I'm guessing the latter. Simply keeping the seams dry has worked...

Filling with a fire hose... Me, not the pool.

Being a newbie myself, I can tell you these people are a Godsend. They are not only nice, but really want to help. They don't call it trouble free pool for nothing!!!

Filling with a fire hose... Me, not the pool.

The only time I see 24/7 here is if you are SLAMming and if you keep on top of everything you should never have to do that! My pool is small, but I run mine about 4 hours at night to make sure the chlorine is well mixed (as well as brushing it), and about 2-4 hours during the day depending on...

    My Daughter the Pool Snob

Hey, I always considered myself a dullard when it came to chemistry and math, but even this stuff is obvious to me. As for Facebook, it sounds like we have similar newsfeeds. It would be hilarious if it weren't so scary. And like zea3 says, I never say "bleach" in public. Like Chlorine is...

    So Far So Good!

Welcome, Dupes! Isn't it fun to do it yourself when you understand it? Your numbers are pretty. ;) I was testing twice a day at first (and sometimes still do) so I got to know what my pool was doing FC/CC and Ph wise depending on usage and weather. Once you get that down, and compensate for...

Anyone had a problem with bees, specifically yellow jackets hanging around the pool?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm a bit apprehensive about putting any chemical in the seams as I'm afraid it might wash into the pool. And thanks to Swampwoman, my noodles are now safely tucked into my pool storage box. It's definitely the water they're after and they are definitely yellow...

    My Daughter the Pool Snob

I'm seeing myself in these posts too. I never say anything, but I'm awfully judgey when it comes to other pools, especially public ones. And forget about mentioning bleach. There's a company that makes 12% bleach for pools, but somehow my 8.25% is going to ruin mine? Sure it is. Sheesh 6...

Anyone had a problem with bees, specifically yellow jackets hanging around the pool?

Thanks, guys. I suspect it's the lack of water more than the crape myrtle as that hasn't been and issue all year. And yes, Jagger it's been pretty dry here the past few weeks, although we had a monsoon of a May!. Hopefully the problem is temporary if we get rain. Then we'll work on shoring up...

Filling with a fire hose... Me, not the pool.

Welcome! It took me a few six packs to get through all the reading and learning I needed to do on this site too. ;) But well worth it! I'd start with the BBB/TFPM right off the bat. I found it's one of those "learn by doing" things and when you post a question, you'll get an answer in short...

Anyone had a problem with bees, specifically yellow jackets hanging around the pool?

Since I have an intex pool, the liner at the top has a small opening above the top seem. The other day, the kids noticed there were yellow jackets in there. The boys splashed them away and said some of them were dead. I don't allow food or drink near my pool and kids have have clean hands and...

Welcome to TFP Forum. It might take a lot of reading, but so well worth it. Not to mention the handy dandy Pool calc and CYA/FC chart. After awhile you'll have it almost memorized! Good luck and happy swimming!

I Also Have the TFP Sparkle!!!

Your pool looks great! Good on you! I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when you refused the chemicals from the PS. It does make you feel good when you know the so called pros have no clue of the relationship between CYA and FC and you do. Love it!
