    Walmart Bleach- Concentrated vs Cleaning

I saw Walmart concentrated bleach is now 6% concentration. This is the same as Walmart cleaning bleach. Is there any difference between these now? Neither appeared to be easy pour or anything like that. Concentrated is $2.94 and cleaning is$1.77.

Soon to be pool owner - is there any such thing as automated BBB?

I have a Stenner pump that auto feeds chlorine. I can let mine go for at least a week with no problems, as long as the solar cover is on. It takes some fine tuning regarding how much chlorine to add each day, but once that's in place, I have been able to just roll back the solar cover, vacuum a...

    Drain Plug stripped

You could also wrap with teflon tape. I think it's often not recommended on plastic, but the pool company appears to have used it when servicing the previous owner with no bad effects. It may tighten up the threads just enough....

    Why convert to the TPF

I do it so I have control over what is done, when it's done, and why it's done. Many first time posts on here are something like 'I have a birthday party in 3 days and my pool is green- help!'. For people familiar with this method, they know what to do (not that their pool would be green if the...

    Public pools

It says many uncovered violations, including pH level and disinfectant concentrations. However, it doesn't say what these guidelines are. Are the using the recommended 7.2-7.6 pH that I see on the pH up (or down) bottles, as opposed to 7.5-7.8 recommended here? Or the 2-3 ppm FC often...

Should I Need to add any chlorine to cold water?

Thanks...sounds like I'm relatively on track with what should be expected.

Should I Need to add any chlorine to cold water?

It's been holding steady....probably about 3 weeks of 7oz per day maintains it at 4ppm.

Should I Need to add any chlorine to cold water?

As I mentioned, people go the entire winter and still end up with FC upon opening, due at least partially to cold water. I'm simply asking if I should even need to add the 7 oz that the Stenner is adding, or should my chlorine consumption be about zero with the cold water. No intention of adding...

Should I Need to add any chlorine to cold water?

Thanks...just wanted to see is it made sense. I wouldn't really be able to pick up that loss with the FAD/DPD, as that's in .5 FC increments...I guess if I really wanted to I could do a 20ml sample, but I'm not that concerned if it seems in line with what's expected....

Should I Need to add any chlorine to cold water?

This is my second year with a pool. I'm still learning and trying to insure everything seems right. I set up a Stenner this season, and I'm adding about 7 oz of 8.25% bleach per day. This is about a .25FC loss per day. The solar cover is on full time, and the water temp is in the mid to upper...

Is there any hope of opening to a clear pool with a mesh cover?

Is there any hope of opening to a clear pool with a mesh cover?

Thanks. I didn't know if it was asking too much to even think it was possible...I might do something like a solid cover over a mesh cover at some point. About a month ago when I checked the water level, the water was clear and I noticed a lot of worms at the bottom...maybe the decomposition of...

Is there any hope of opening to a clear pool with a mesh cover?

I think I followed all the instructions for closing last season (except closed with water at 62 deg). I haven't opened yet, but I will be very soon as I noticed algae is in full bloom. I have a mesh cover, so sunlight can still get in to consume FC. Is there really any hope of opening a pool...

    Dealing with Ammonia

This question occurred to me only because I saw the instructions for dealing with ammonia in another post. I had this problems last year (first season with a pool, former owners closed the pool too early). I'm not sure if I'll have this problem or not this year- I hope not since I followed TFP...

    Dealing with Ammonia

There were recommendations in another active thread about how to deal with ammonia upon opening. I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I'll start a new one. The recommendation was as follows: Treatment for Ammonia: 1. Begin a SLAM and dose FC up to SLAM level. Do not add additional CYA at this...

How to Prevent CYA to Ammonia

Thanks...the previous owner closed early because they moved before they sold the house, so nobody was around to take care of anything. I have a loop loc cover, so sunlight will make it's way in; I guess I'll take the solar cover off at night and put it on in the morning in an effort to let the...

How to Prevent CYA to Ammonia

This is the first year I will be closing the pool (moved in November). Last year the previous owners closed in August. Upon opening, I had to use 40-50 jugs of bleach to get the pool to hold FC. I was told on TFP that this may be ammonia that was converted from the CYA, which I suspect is the...

How do people go years with no problems using pucks?

Often I see people come on here for the first time, saying they've used pucks for years with no problems, then they started having problems. Why don't they have problems in the first year or two? I used some pucks recently to bring up my CYA. It raised by 20ppm in a about a week using them in an...

Re: Should I run my pool pump 24 hrs\day?

Re: Should I run my pool pump 24 hrs\day? For the first month after opening, I ran the pump 24/7 (new to pools this year). I now run it 2 hours around noon (to circulate water when the sun is intense on the solar cover) and 3 hours in the evening (to circulate when I'm adding bleach). There is...

    New Pool Owner Update !

Did you use the 1/4" or 3/8" injection port valve? I couldn't see it in your earlier plumbing photos (probably taken before it was in)- did you place the injection point near, or in place of, your auto chlorinator shown in the photo?
