Steps in Converting to a SWG pool

VS is shorthand for Variable Speed - refers to a pump which is able to be programmed to run at different speeds throughout the day or night. There are internal controls within the pump that can vary the pump speed and therefore the flow to the pool so you can turn over more or less water during...

Steps in Converting to a SWG pool

As stated earlier, if your budget can handle it, buying the SWG and a VS pump together is a long term economic winner especially if you choose a combo where they are discounted regularly. Just bought a Circupool VS pump and SWG myself and plan on it paying off in electric and chlorine expense.

    Vertical or horizontal?

No No, the SWCG! I am going to soon be finishing up on the plumbing changes for my new Circupool 2hp VS pump and RJ60 SWCG. It looks like I’ll have enough room to go either horizontal or vertical with the salt cell, and the instructions indicate either way is ok. Question is, is there a...

    Questions on SWG and pump

I went to HD today in Mechanicsburg PA and they did have liquid chlorine with a date of 20070. I bought 3 boxes of three gallons. They had 41 bottles according to the website.

    Questions on SWG and pump

I did call a nearby Home Depot and they have their branded HDX chlorine at 10%, but I asked about the dates. She said the dates on the bottles were July 20 so I am assuming that she quoted a use by date. Is that a good assumption?

    Questions on SWG and pump

Thanks Jim. I I’ve got the Taylor T-100 test kit With salt measurement and the numbers I got (admittedly first time use) indicates 600 ppm salt. Gonna need quite a bit per pool math. I don’t know if I should trust the numbers since there is no circulation currently in the pool.

    Questions on SWG and pump

Jim, I rethought the selection of RJ45 and am going to return the SWG unused in the box to DSP. I’ll go with the RJ60 just to make things easier on the SWG in the summer when I need more chlorine output. As for opening, I have plenty of time to get this setup complete. My usual opening is...

    Questions on SWG and pump

Jim, there is a 2hp pump, although it is not “featured” on the DSP web page. Here’s the link. CircuPool SmartFlo® Variable Speed Swimming Pool Pump | 2.0 THP They also discounted the pump in the package with the SWG. Total with discount was $1748 w no shipping.

    Questions on SWG and pump

A few hours too late Jim. As per my other post, it isn’t imperative as the temps are not near opening yet but it would have been good to figure that out ahead of time ?

    Questions on SWG and pump

I was thinking the same, but making it even more simple - if the pump is running 24/7 there really is no need to time the SWG. I think I’ll be able to notch down the RJ-45 enough to not over chlorinate and thereby everything runs all the time. The pump only draws about 8amps and the cell about 2...

    Questions on SWG and pump

Thanks all. I fell for the sale that Discountsaltpool.com had on that ended last night. Went with the Circupool RJ45 and 2HP VS pump. Given my desire to run the pump longer (albeit at a lower speed) I figured the RJ45 would be acceptable. If I find that I don’t need the SWCG running 24/7, I...

    Questions on SWG and pump

That’s where my head was at reading so far in this forum. A VS pump running constantly would probably be my best bet for cleaning efficiency. Letting the pool sit overnight always seems to lead to things floating then sinking to the bottom without circulation, leading to more vacuum work. Do...

    Questions on SWG and pump

Thanks Jim. I was actually thinking that I’d probably have the VS pump running 24/7 albeit at lower speeds that would eliminate a timer altogether? Or would I need a timer for the SWG? But I’m not sure it’s worth switching out the pump.

    Questions on SWG and pump

OK. I believe I'm ready, after many years, to upgrade to a SWG. I'm looking at the Circupool RJ45 ($1 upgrade from RJ30). My current pump is a 1HP Hayward that I run about 10 hours per day off a timer in the basement on a 230 circuit. My pump and filter are located away from the house some...
