What’s your water temp - Spring 2024 edition

72 is the water temp. Lots of 80's in the forecast so hopefully that will warm up the pool. The kids will get in at 80, but I need it to be 82 or above, so I may need to heat it a bit if we want to swim before May.

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024 Monday.

Good luck. I was on a zoom with my team in NYC ~30 mins ago and they were all complaining that the clouds were rolling in. Hope they hold out for you.

The clouds somewhat cooperated here. These are the best pics I could do with my 50 cent amazon iPhone filter:

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024 Monday.

It was a beautiful weekend and not a cloud in the sky this morning. Now, 2 hours before we should be able to start seeing it, I cant even find the sun. Does this count as a total cloudar eclipse :)

    Hayward Eclipse Settings

If you put your eclipse glasses on your SWCG, it will account for the eclipse. Just make sure they are ISO certified and not some cheap knock off.

Never thought I'd ever have to worry but I need outdoor security cameras!

We got our cameras after a similar incident. My daughter was named captain of her highschool squad, and the girls responded with TPing and forking our yard. Fairly harmless, but some of the girls who thought they should be captain brought eggs too. Luckily the other girls talked them out of...

Never thought I'd ever have to worry but I need outdoor security cameras!

Also note that many cameras see in the dark just fine and do not need a light. Luckily as Allen pointed out, you have lots of options for wired/wireless cameras and lights to fit whatever suites your needs the best.

Never thought I'd ever have to worry but I need outdoor security cameras!

Check out the blink cameras from Amazon. They check a lot of your boxes including: - battery powered (I have to change mine every ~6 months) - connect to your home wifi - have options for local storage via a USB device that plugs in a power outlet (what I use) but you can also get subscription...

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024 Monday.

The forecast for the Dallas area is 0% visibility. Hopefully, we will still see it, but I'll only be out a few $ for the glasses. Lots of people here rented out their houses to people traveling for the eclipse, and in turn are using the $ to go on vacation. I'm expecting mass chaos with the...

Hey Dad, are you still coming over this weekend?

Congrats Homebrewale! Jim - Unless you went on a feeding frenzy in the last few months since we met, I cant imagine you needing to lose 40 lbs.

Anyone do travel sports with their kids? Tips to make it more affordable?

I have a friend who had a daughter who did hunter/jumper competitions. She was able to get a scholarship out of it, but my friend fails to mention that he had to spend $200k+ on a horse for said scholarship :) Very true. I drive a hybrid that has many plugs in the back and was perfect for...

Anyone do travel sports with their kids? Tips to make it more affordable?

No tips, but you certainly have my sympathy. Its unfortunate that kids activities have become profitable businesses for many people, from paid coaches to dedicated travel agents. My daughter is in band and on top of the thousands of $ in fees, lessons, instrument rental, travel to games and...

Starting inventory list - 55 pools

Here is a list of the recommended and non-recommended pool chemicals. Most of the posters on here are individual homeowners, but there are a few that take care of other pools that may chime in. Good luck. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/recommended-pool-chemicals/...

    Beach Vacation Ideas

I like your travel style. We stayed on the US side, but loved BVI and did several excursions including the baths and my absolute favorite was Jost Van Dyke and the Soggy Dollar Bar and their painkillers. We also went fishing off of a little known island with a huge American flag owned by "a...

    Beach Vacation Ideas

The wife and I are beach people and looking for ideas for a vacation in April/May of this year with just the 2 of us. We have done FL, Mexico, and the Western Caribbean a fair amount and are looking for something different. We were sold on the Maldives, but just read that April and May are...

This movie theatre in Austin is famous for people watching Jaws from innertubes in the water. They even will have scuba divers swim underneath and mess with people during the intense parts. They need to pick up this movie too...

    Hello- Ft Worth Stuff

No, he is just pointing out that you may get better luck focusing on a local marketplace vs a worldwide pool forum. I would also suggest adding a bit more context on the items including price, condition, why you are selling, etc.

    It's autumn, Florida style!

I'm with you. Its heater time when the water drops below 85. Even then we usually gravitate towards the spa and then there is no chance of going back into the frigid pool water once you are in the spa :)

Hyundai Elantra- Hybrid -Great car so far!

Thanks. I have a regular hybrid (F150) and love it, but at times I wondered about plug-ins. Since this will be a kid car and likely parked behind one of us in the driveway a plug-in would be a PITA, as would trying to mess with that in college/her next chapter in life.

Draining Your Pool Can Get Your Homeowner's Insurance Canceled

I'm sleeping with my agent and she said that whenever there are a large amount of claims in an area an insurance company's risk appetite goes way down and they look for any excuse not to renew you including: Old Roof Raising your wind/hail deductible to 2% or even 3% Convertibles Motorcycles...

    Travertine pavers separating in heat

Does it go back to normal once you get rain? We have some clay but not as bad as other parts of the state. I wonder if a soaker hose on the pavers would do anything. Seems a bit weird to water your pavers, but would be easy to try.
