Help With End Stages Of Treatment

Yes, I am now vaccuuming at least twice a day. I was away from home and trusted DH and the kids to maintain the pool. When I came back, it was green and I found out that DH had just been dumping in chlorine and backwashing. On top of that we had to replace a valve under the pool, which meant we...

Help With End Stages Of Treatment

Thanks for your help. I just scrubbed and vaccummed for an hour or so, then checked my readings. After sitting in the sun all day: FC 9 CC .5 pH: 7.5 TA 120 I am happy that the FC is holding relatively well. It took me days to get to this point. I will bump it up to 16 and see...

Help With End Stages Of Treatment

There isn't a lot of CYA on the floor, at least that I can see. Just noticed some floating particles when I went to take samples. I used the Pool Calculator for the CYA - I had 10 and was trying to bring it up to 40 per that. The water is still cloudy and a little green.

Help With End Stages Of Treatment

I've been workin' the steps for about a week, and I'm so close now that I don't want to accidentally make any steps backwards. Thanks in advance! I am using a TF50 test kit. Last night, our FC was at 12, and this morning DH said it tested at 11.5. However I tested the same sample again when...

    Dead Algae not filtering out?

I think you really need to get a better test kit. Trust me - even if you get it cleaned up this time without it, someday you'll go on vacation and come back to a green pool, and you'll wish you had bought it when they told you to. (There's a reason I know that.) Do you know for sure how much...

    Where to Start? Low CYA

Heh! I ended up going in. I wasn't swimming yet, I was scrubbing. I think it made a difference. I have now held my 10 ppm for 2 entire hours! And my TA is down to 180 from 257. It is so wonderful to see some progress. There was so much muck that it took us 2 weeks of scooping, filtering...

    Where to Start? Low CYA

Woot! I finally have held my shock for a whole hour!

    Where to Start? Low CYA

I have another question: Can I get into the water to scrub without doing my skin harm? My FC is (hopefully) around 10, and my CYA is at 10.

    Where to Start? Low CYA

Thanks! We had vacuumed it quite well, but it's fall and the trees are dropping "stuff." I don't want to get behind. An update ...because my test kit only goes up to a 3, i am using stupid test strips until I can get a better test. (I am going to order it off this site.) Last night we dropped...

    Where to Start? Low CYA

I have a question - can I vacuum the pool while getting my water properly adjusted, or will stirring it up give me inaccurate results?

    Where to Start? Low CYA

Well, I added the acid, then dear hubby added the bleach after a couple of hours. I just went to check my FC level, and found that my test kit only scales up to 3.0 - Argh! So I had to resort to the stupid, hard to interpret strips. And it started raining.

    Where to Start? Low CYA

Oh it all helps! I am going to add the muriatic acid now, and then hurry up and wait. :) Rarely am I in the mood to actually do chores. How ironic that I can only wait for the chemicals to react.

    Where to Start? Low CYA

I have an above-ground, about 13,000 gallons. I bought a boatload of chemicals this morning: bleach, muriatic acid, stabilizer, baking soda, borax - I'm ready to start. This pool sat uncovered and empty for at least a year, maybe 2. We've been scooping and cleaning for 2 weeks. We're finally...
