Tiny Brown spots - not black algae or rust?

Any luck figuring this out RCM? I have something similar looking but the spots can be easily removed with a chlorine tablet. However spots are back the next day.

    Stubborn Algae

Hey Pat, Pretty sure that something is still in the water. By adding the half gallon a day I'm trying to make sure I keep ahead of it even if I error on the side of a little too much chlorine. I have not checked to see if I pass all 3 criteria because I am still seeing the black spots daily but...

    Stubborn Algae

Just a quick update to let everyone know I still have the black marks on the bottom of my vinyl pool. Now that its warmer outside I am vacuuming every day and adding 1/2 gallon of bleach. I have been fighting this for weeks if not months and getting tired. Water got pretty cold with the cold...

    Stubborn Algae

Hi Pat, Got busy yesterday (NFL) and didn't have time to tend to the pool. Tested this morning and FC dropped to 9. Added 3/4 gallon of chlorine to bring it up. CYA about 25 so added a small amount of stabilizer. Vacuumed the algae and put the solar cover on as its windy and cold here. Wife said...

    Stubborn Algae

Hi Pat, The 20 reading is right at the top of the vial. I'm a little short of that say 22. I will continue to add stabilizer a little at a time to inch CYA up. Added a 1/2 gallon of bleach too. What is mustard type algae level? By the way I got my TF-100 replacement kit and am using it now...

    Stubborn Algae

Yes Bill, I have been careful with the CYA. Its staying right around 20. The stabilizer dissolved quickly and I have added a little twice and tested several times-still 20. Chlorine is still being used but its staying high longer and not dumping 1-2 gallons of bleach in per day the way I was...

    Stubborn Algae

Makes sense to me. Current readings: FC 8, CC 0 TA 100, CYA 20. Added a little more stabilizer today and 1/2 gallon of chlorine this morning and 1/2 this evening to try to keep it at 12 shock level. Water is crystal clear but still have the little squiggly marks on the button. Swept the pool...

    Stubborn Algae

    Stubborn Algae

Yes helps alot ! Poll math said to add 49oz of bleach, 84 oz of stabilizer ( I could only get 32 oz into the sock so I will refill after it dissolves ). PH was very high probably higher than 8.2 so I added PH Down-20oz per the label. Pool math also told me to add 184 oz of baking soda to fix TA...

    Stubborn Algae

For the past two seasons I've been dealing with really stubborn algae. Its comprised of small black or dark brown spots that always seem to settle in the exact same places so much so that they have created a darkness on the liner where they settle. I am using nothing but chlorine bleach, a...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Water is clear but every morning I have patchy algae spots on the floor. Keeping FC around 12 and CYA is still 25. Algae looks light green to yellow. Mustard algae? Some spots are narrow lines. When I brush it looks like a cloud so its something. Any ideas? Got pump fixed. Needed a bearing and...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Update. Finally did find someone to come and fix the leak. Leak was really bad and it was a struggle keeping up with the water loss. Was running the hose 12 hours a day just to keep up. Leak was in the floor and patch appears to be holding. Water is blue and was clear to the bottom but algae has...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Yes I meant CYA was reduced to 60. Yes the filter and pool pump were running last night not the submersible. As soon as the water level got above the skimmer I started the pump. Put another 2 gallons of bleach in this morning. I wish I had hung the submersible pump suspended in the water as I...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Well guys I have not posted because all my time has been used working on the pool and trying to finish a divorce. I had been maintaining FC at 31-32. I began noticing a slight lightening of water color. Finally I decided to follow DomCt203's advice and drain 20 % of the water, refill, test CYA...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Dom and Bob, Not relevant but I am going thru a divorce and the wife took the only camera. I'm expecting a new one today via UPS. then I can take and post pictures. Pool water hasn't changed at all so I think I may try the drain and refill today or tomorrow. For all I know there is a critter in...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Saturday morning...Still not improving. Can't help but think something else is wrong. Any ideas? Pool school suggested a partial water drain if CYA is higher than 80. Should I and if so how low should I go without the danger of the liner shrinking?

CYA 80 and FC now 27 - - - Updated - - - No just started using the bags of shock. Normally use bleach but nothing was happening so got the shock. I used 12 bags but I'm switching back to bleach on the advice of this forum. CYA 80 and FC 24 this morning so will add bleach now. One gallon or more?

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Yes pump running 24/7 and yes brushing daily but can't see the bottom of the pool. Chlorine level has been above 27 since Tuesday/Wednesday. I know the shock level is 24 but when nothing was happening I threw in 2 more bags of shock this morning because I'm so frustrated. Not sure how to post...

    Green Swamp-Not Improving !

Please help I seem to be getting nowhere fast and don't know what to do. Have read pool school. Thank you !

    Algae

FC 15 last night and no CC. FC 12.5 this morning. Decided to just let FC drift down so we can swim. If algae comes back I'll close the pool. I've been at this 3 weeks. Water is clear and hard to find any spots on the floor.

    Algae

Just a followup. Been keeping the FC up as best I can. Big drops during the day. Some storms which increased debris and then sunny hot weather. The good news is that the water is very clear and the spots on the bottom of the pool almost non existent. I will test FC and CC tonight and test FC...
